Three nabbed with illegal firearms in Rautahat

Rauthat, 20 December: Police in Rautahat district have nabbed three persons in possession of illegal firearms in a week.

A joint team of security personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force arrested them from Indian border areas in the district, according to Rautahat District Police Office (DPO).

Acting on a tip-off that a man was smuggling illegal firearms on a motorcycle from India via a barrage across the Bagmati River, security personnel set up an ambush at Jhaja Bridge along Gaur-Pipara road section in Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality-5 and arrested a man in possession of firearms, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhi Bikram Shah at the DPO. The arrestee has been identified as Dilip Sah (25) of Yamunamai Rural Municipality-4.

Police seized 3.50mm homemade pistol and one round bullet from the possession of Sah who was riding a motorcycle (BR 30 M) from India to Nepal, SP Shah said. Previously, police had arrested Raj Mohammad Alam (20) of Wagahi in Katahariya Municipality-7 in possession of a homemade pistol on Wednesday. He had been riding a motorcycle with Indian registration no. (BR 30 W 4873) when police were carrying out a security check.

Likewise, an Indian national heading to Nepal was found carrying a homemade pistol during a security check carried out by APF at Laxmipur in Rajdevi Municipality-8. Arrestee Nitesh Patel was handed over to Nepal Police SP Shah informed.

SP Shah said police nabbed three persons in possession of illegal firearms in a week as police heightened the security in the border areas to control the criminal activities. With support from local residents, police could fully control the untoward activities in the district, SP Shah said.
