Kathmandu, 7 May: The Yadav-Bhattarai faction of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has decided not to throw support behind the confidence motion for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav said a majority of JSP lawmakers have decided to vote against the confidence motion which Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to take in the parliament on May 10.

“We have decided to vote against the confidence motion for Prime Minister Oli in the parliament,” said Yadav, adding, “The party is yet to decide on it officially.”

According to sources, Chairman Yadav discussed this issue in a meeting with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda and CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Nepal on Wednesday.

Prachanda and Nepal had gone to Yadav’s residence in Hattiban to meet with the latter. However, Yadav denied meeting them.

Currently, Yadav has intensified meetings with Prachanda and Nepal to garner majority to foil the confidence motion to be taken by Oli.

“Yadav has informed Prachanda and Nepal that a majority of JSP lawmakers are against the Oli-led government,” sources have said.

Earlier, Yadav had discussed this issue in a meeting with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. The Yadav-Bhattarai faction has also collected signatures of JSP lawmakers and members of central executive committee of the party against the Oli-led government.
